The two characters by themselves do not have existing meaning, i.e., the term is a "newly" "invented" one. Or one may associate them as a shortened term of 黑侠客, meaning black knight/chivalry.

How interesting the translation of the transliteration "the dark visitor" somehow lost the nuances.

Reversely, The translation of "the dark visitor" is 黑暗访问者, polishing this translation may lead to 暗探 (an4 tan4) meaning detective/spy or literally means dark/dim/concealed + explorer.

hacker/黑客 remains a western notion of a computer buff with no added meaning of good or bad, evil intention or patriotic intention in itself. How the culture and practices morph and progress is another story.

I wonder how much translation and interpretion have been lost and misunderstanding of intention escalate...how an innocent butterfly flaps its wings and war happens...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4088979.post-87263528799695435022008-03-07T11:22:00.000-05:002008-03-07T11:22:00.000-05:00I highly recommend the book!I found the book inte...I highly recommend the book!

I found the book interesting and informative. I do not know of any other book the covers the Chinese Hacker community in such depth.

On the other hand LuLu did have an issue (the electronic book did not have the cover on it)but Scott, the author, jumped right in and fixed the problem.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4088979.post-83892449130010836932008-02-14T02:14:00.000-05:002008-02-14T02:14:00.000-05:00The Chinese characters for "hacker" is "黑客".The Chinese characters for "hacker" is "黑客".Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
