This article is something like 18 pages long, because at the last minute the publishers had several authors withdraw articles. The publishers decided to print the extended version of my article, so it's far longer than I expected! We're currently editing the companion piece on keeping FreeBSD applications up-to-date. I expect to also submit an article on running Sguil on FreeBSD 8.0 when I get a chance to test the latest version in my lab.

It's too bad that BSD Magazine is now on-line only, but it is free which is good.
On-line only? Are you sure, I see the latest edition at my local Borders.
Yeap, I just tried to renew my subscription and was told subscriptions will no longer be available, but they will have free PDF downloads for now.
In an earlier post (12/06) you state, "I haven't run FreeBSD on the desktop for several years," yet you write an [18 page] article on keeping FreeBSD up to date. Just curious about how much the article relates to your past vs. current knowledge and experience...
Last anonymous, I haven't run FreeBSD on the desktop for years, but I have continuously run FreeBSD on servers since 2000 (4.1 I think). If you see the article, you'll notice the reason it is 18 pages long is that it shows examples of all of the techniques for keeping FreeBSD up-to-date. It's not just theory and it incorporates the latest tools that I like.
